Rationale

The ability to deal effectively with different working styles, disagreements and personality clashes is an essential leadership skill in the workplace.

Learning how to deal with challenging people and circumstances in and outside of the workplace facilitates personal and professional development.

This program helps you to master advanced techniques for managing yourself and others. This will enable you to create better relationships in the workplace. A special emphasis of this course is on facilitating participatory, high energy meetings, both on a one-on-one and on a team level.

 

Learning Outcomes


Participants will:

 

  • increase their awareness of how they are dealing with challenging behaviour.

  • learn to apply techniques which enable them to deal with others effectively.

  • have the skill to deliver feedback and criticism constructively, with dignity and respect.

    (e.g. at performance reviews).

  • develop confidence to facilitate meetings more efficiently.

  • gain insights that enable them to overcome victim mentality in themselves and their staff.

  • be more effective in motivating team members and bringing them on board.

  • be able to use conflicts as opportunities for learning for themselves and their team.

  • improve their ability to manage their emotions and avoid burn-out.

 

Who Should Attend


Anyone who experiences difficult situations or conflicts at work and wishes to improve their way of dealing with them. This unique course has been delivered successfully at University College Cork since 2004 and is now being offered nationally to people in leadership positions.


Course Programme:

 

  • Understand which kind of situations and people challenge us and why.

  • Techniques for managing yourself in stressful interpersonal situations

  • Develop the attitude of compassion and understand its role for mastering communication on all levels, in yourself and with others.

  • Create rapport and safe space as the basis for effective feedback, conflict resolution and constructive confrontation.

  • Learn and practice effective and respectful feedback skills in practical workplace situations.

  • Learn and practice conflict resolution techniques and processes.

  • Understand victim-mentality in yourself and others and learn to replace it by taking responsibility and holding others accountable.

  • Learn and apply advanced group facilitation skills which enable you to increase enthusiasm, creativity and participation in your teams, de-escalate conflicts and use them as opportunities for team development and effective project management.

  • One-on-one sessions to help participants formulate goals and milestones to apply these new skills in their workplace. These goals will be reviewed in an agreed number of support sessions via e-mail.

     

Learning Approach:

 

Building on over 15 years of experience in adult education and as a communication trainer Thomas Riedmuller uses an experiential learning approach. This methodology of learning provides opportunities to apply new insights in practice and offers participants feedback on their newly applied skills. Opportunities for ongoing reflection help learners to integrate these skills into their lives at work and at home.

Additional Support:

 

To assist with continuing skills development, we facilitate via email a reflective practice after the training based on personal goals formulated by each delegate during the course. This assists participants in integrating new learning into their daily work lives.

 

This program offers one to one or group coaching as an additional element to further support the delegate and embed the learning process.
